This year, I was offered space to run an unconference around #LoveTheatreDay.  It’s free and open to everyone – even those just interested in Theatre.

As part of the unconference, I’m working with students from Goldsmith University.  The following is a guest blog about the unconference:

Think of the word ‘theatre’. What is the first thing that comes to mind? Your favorite performance? A beautifully designed stage? It might be music, lighting or even some new ideas you might have! #LoveTheatreDay presents Theatre Un-conference/Theatre Camp UK, a place where everyone is welcome to pitch and discuss ideas in an encouraging and nurturing environment of continuous dialogue and inspiration.

Why an Un-conference you may ask? Well, you might have attended several events/conferences where guest speakers have lectured an audience for hours about the theatre and how to make a breakthrough into the industry by implementing several ‘simple’ steps. We use the term ‘simple’ quite loosely in this context. Nevertheless, the roles have switched! Located in The Art Pavilion Mile End Park on the November 14th 2017 at 11:00 am to 15:00 pm, this session is committed to encouraging those with innovative ideas to come forth and inspire theatre enthusiasts. The opportunity is now being presented for all those intrigued to facilitate a group conversation cultivating a participative setting where numerous thoughts, ideas, or concepts can be the topics of discussion as well as the perspectives of fellow peers, which is highly encouraged.

There isn’t a right or wrong way of participating in the Theatre Un-conference. Join us with an open mind or an innovative idea and most importantly be ready to ask daring questions and challenge the norms. Because theatre is art, and is it truly art if it isn’t challenged and questioned! We encourage our participants to be vocal. Be loud. Be enthusiastic. Be respectful. But most importantly be passionate, because this will be a place for a diverse range of theatre lovers.
